Development of “Green” Approaches in Agriculture and the Development of the “Sustainable Farmer” Occupational Standard Discussed

Sept. 2, 2026

A meeting was held at the National Institute for Development of the National Qualifications System with representatives of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) implementing the TexVET-II project, with the participation of international expert Ekkehard Schröder.

The meeting focused on the development of modern and “green” approaches in the agricultural sector, the development of professional competencies aligned with labour market needs, and, in particular, the development of an occupational standard for the “Sustainable Farmer” profession and its integration into the education and practical training systems.

The discussions also covered opportunities for developing and improving occupational standards based on German experience, applying advanced methodological approaches, and adapting and introducing international best practices into Uzbekistan’s national qualifications system, taking into account its specific context.

Particular attention was paid to establishing strategic cooperation with the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) of Germany, which has significant institutional expertise in the development of vocational education and qualifications systems. It was noted that such cooperation would play an important role in developing occupational standards, strengthening the capacity of specialists, and introducing international best practices into national practice.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their intention to further develop cooperation within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Institute and GIZ, continue the work on the “Sustainable Farmer” occupational standard, and pursue joint initiatives in a consistent and coordinated manner.
